Updated Temporary COVID-19 Increased Bed Hold Rates for DP/ASA Services

February 3, 2021

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has corrected the 2019–2020 temporary COVID-19 increased bed hold/leave per diem rates for Distinct Part Adult Subacute (DP/ASA) facilities.

When the 2019–2020 temporary COVID-19 increased bed hold rates were calculated, the 10 percent increase was applied incorrectly. This caused the bed hold amount to be erroneously slightly increased which caused the bed hold per diem rate to be slightly reduced. The rates have been corrected and are effective retroactively for dates of service on or after March 1, 2020.

Providers should bill using the updated rates for services provided on or after March 1, 2020. Providers do not need to resubmit claims to adjust their payments. An Erroneous Payment Correction (EPC) will be initiated to reprocess affected claims.

For billing or payment questions, providers may call the Telephone Service Center (TSC) at 1-800-541-5555, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Providers should refer to the DP/ASA webpage for updated rates.
