1. Sex Indicator Not Printed on New BICs
Beginning September 1, 2021, Medi-Cal will no longer print a sex indicator on the face of newly-created Benefits Identification Cards (BICs). All other information displayed on the face of the BIC, in addition to the information contained in the magnetic strip on the back of the card, will remain unchanged.
Providers should continue to accept all BIC designs currently in circulation and verify eligibility accordingly as Medi-Cal will not reissue BICs to beneficiaries who currently have cards with sex indicators. The redesign applies to new and replacement cards only.
