New Medi-Cal Diabetes Prevention Program Manual Section

June 14, 2019

A Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) provider manual section is released to help providers bill the new DPP benefit.

DPP providers can be reimbursed for diabetes prevention services only after:

  • Complying with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC guidance
  • Obtaining CDC recognition in connection with the National Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program
  • Enrolling separately in Medi-Cal as a DPP provider
  • Being approved by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to render DPP services

Reimbursement for DPP services will be effective from the DPP provider’s date of enrollment as an approved Medi-Cal DPP provider, which date is conveyed by the state’s Provider Enrollment Division (PED).

Providers may refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Medi-Cal Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Services for additional information.
