Billing Examples Illustrate Use of National Drug Code
To help providers bill accurately for physician-administered drugs, billing examples in the Blood and Blood Derivatives Billing Examples: CMS-1500 and Injections Billing Example: CMS-1500 sections have been updated.
Each physician-administered drug must be billed with both a HCPCS code and corresponding National Drug Code (NDC). NDCs are requested for claims with dates of service from September 1, 2008 through March 31, 2009 but will be mandatory for claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2009.
For information about entering NDCs on claims, providers may refer to the article NDC Reporting Requirement under “What’s New.”Updates are included on manual replacement pages blood cms 2 thru 5 (Part 2), inject bil cms 2 and 3 (Part 2) and non inject 1 thru 3 (Part 2).
