Effective retroactively for dates of service on or after September 1, 2008, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code A9579 (injection, gadolinium based magnetic resonance contrast agent, not otherwise specified, per ml) is a Medi-Cal benefit. Gadolinium is a paramagnetic contrast material that requires an invoice for reimbursement and must not be billed with modifier 26, TC or ZS.

Claims denied after September 1, 2008 will automatically be reprocessed through an Erroneous Payment Correction.
