POS Device Automatic Software Update

December 4, 2008

Effective mid-December 2008, messages will appear on Point of Service (POS) devices announcing an automatic software update download. No action is required by providers except to leave the device on at the end of the day. The latest version of the VeriFone OMNI 3300 software will download and install automatically. Providers should refer to the POS Device User Guide for information on the latest software version.

Providers may also call the Telephone Service Center (TSC) at 1-800-541-5555 (select option 16 from the main menu and then option 16 again from the submenu) for further instructions or to request a hard copy of the POS Device User Guide.

Listed below are the POS device modifications that will be implemented mid-December.

POS Device Eligibility Suite
When a recipient’s Social Security Number (SSN) and issue date are submitted on either an Eligibility Inquiry or Spend Down transaction that certifies eligibility for Medi-Cal benefits, the POS device software response screen (and printed receipt) will display the following:
  • The Subscriber ID field will display the recipient’s Benefits Identification Card (BIC) number instead of the submitted SSN, and;
  • A new Submitted ID field will now display the submitted SSN along with a “Subscriber ID Updated” message confirming the subscriber ID changes.

The Eligibility Transaction Procedures user guide will be updated reflecting the changes.

POS Device Family PACT Suite
The POS device Family PACT Suite will display a blank field for the Number of Births field requiring the user to enter a value. The Device System Transactions: Family PACT user guide will be updated reflecting the changes.

POS Device Pharmacy and 837 Professional Health Care Suites
The POS device Pharmacy and Professional Health Care Claim Suite will skip the Issue Date screen when a BIC number is entered while continuing to display the Issue Date screen when another number is entered. The software will no longer allow the user to enter the SSN in the Cardholder ID field. The Device System Transactions: Pharmacy and Device System Transactions: Health Care Claim – 837 Professional user guides will be updated reflecting the changes.
