Correction: Hospital Name/Accepting Physician Not Needed for Medical Transportation Dry Runs

February 27, 2018

Effective for dates of service on or after April 1, 2018, when completing the emergency statement for air or ground medical transportation, providers no longer need to include the name of the hospital to which a recipient was transported or the name of the physician accepting responsibility for the recipient. A dry run transport has no accepting hospital or physician.

Providers had mistakenly been instructed to include the name of the hospital to which the recipient was transported and the name of the physician accepting responsibility for the recipient. An erroneous payment correction will be initiated to reprocess claims denied with Remittance Advice Details (RAD) code 9983: Emergency ambulance service always requires emergency indicator and certification on the claim.

List of Dry Run Services Updated in Provider Manual
HCPCS code A0225 (ambulance service, neonatal transport, base rate, emergency transport, one way) is added to the list of codes reimbursable for dry run services in the Part 2, provider manual section, Medical Transportation: Ground to match existing policy.
