Transition from Covered California Health Plans to Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans

Updated January 09, 2015
January 05, 2015

Department of Health Care Services would like to notify you that effective January 1st approximately 100,000 beneficiaries will transition from their Covered California Health Plan coverage to a Medi-Cal Managed Care health plan. These individuals no longer qualify for Advanced Premium Tax Credit coverage through Covered California Plans based on the change in their income and/or family size. Those who transition to Medi-Cal and whose current Covered California Health Plan is also a Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan will transition with no lapse in coverage. Those who are in a Covered California Health Plan that is not in a Managed Care Plan will be automatically enrolled into a Managed Care Plan in their county.

It is important that hospitals and providers verify eligibility status in the Medi-Cal Eligibility system (Automatic Eligibility Verification System/AEVS) using the members Social Security Number, as these beneficiaries may not have a Benefits Identification Card (BIC) to present at the time of their visit. BICs are mailing to this population the first week of January 2015.

These beneficiaries are receiving notices from Covered California and the Department of Health Care Services and they may present these notices on their date of service.

Thank you for your support during this transition.
