HIPAA: Cancer Detection Programs - Every Woman Counts Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) Distribution Reminder

April 12, 2006

The Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rule mandates that all health plans and providers of medical care issue a Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) to recipients.

The Cancer Detection Section (CDS) reminds all health providers to give a copy of the Every Woman Counts NPP to each recipient that enrolls or re-enrolls in the Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts program. Providers will have documentation that the recipient received the NPP after the recipient signs all the required lines on the Consent to Participate in Program and Privacy Statement form. The signed consent form must be kept in the recipient's medical record.

NPP forms are available in seven different languages and located on the Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts Downloads Web page.
