HIPAA: 270/271 Real-Time Internet Eligibility (RTIE) Screen Changes
March 22, 2004On March 22, 2004, selected field names used in the 270/271 Real-Time Internet Eligibility (RTIE) transactions (previously called "Determine Patient's Eligibility and Internet Batch Eligibility [IBEA] Processing") changed to comply with transaction standards mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The 270/271 RTIE is used to inquire about Medi-Cal eligibility. For providers' reference, the old field name will be shown either in parenthesis after the new field name or in a pop-up text box that appears when the cursor pauses over a new field name.
Field name changes appearing on the 270/271 transaction are shown in the following table.
