HIPAA: Outpatient Place of Service Code Correlations - Update
Additional local-to-national code correlations have been added to the Outpatient Place of Service code correlation chart to include Local Educational Agencies (LEA) and Adult Day Health Care Centers. Effective September 22, 2003, LEA providers who currently bill with a Place of Service code “7” for outpatient services and Adult Day Health Care Center providers who currently bull with code “9” should bill with national Place of Service code “89.” In addition, rehabilitation clinics that bill outpatient occupational therapy, speech therapy, acupuncture, audiology and physical therapy services with local Place of Service code “7” should bill with national Place of Service code “74.” Please refer to the Code Correlations: Place of Service Codes document for this updated information.Medi-Cal has created this code correlation information in order to assist with the conversion of interim (local) codes to national codes, as mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
